Is it better to restore your own oud?

So, if your instrument would need restoration, would you say it's better to do it yourself or would you rather look for an expert who has done this before? Also, where would you find one?

If you can find a professional, I'd say go to him! On the other hand, if you have steady hands and trust yourself, I don't see why you can't look for some tutorials or ask around for advice on forums.

It depends on were you get your materials from. Some sources are ok, but if you're not very knowledgeable when it comes to instruments or 'spare parts', you risk not doing it right.
