When to apply french polish?
« on: April 16, 2015, 06:44:54 AM »
I have a question, maybe someone can help me out here: when do luthiers usually apply the french polish? Is it before gluing the bridge & pickguard? Thank you in advance!

I am not a luthier, but I know that it isn't at all recommended that you apply any sort of finish to the sound table! It may affect your oud's sound, so don't apply a finish to the face. Maybe try applying some light oil instead, it's a much better idea!

I agree with Lillyan, if you apply any kind of finish to the soundtable, you risk affecting the sound of your oud. Using shellac, lacquer and other finishes will damage the sound.
