Where did you buy your oud case from?
« on: April 09, 2015, 02:32:17 AM »
As I see it, an oud case is very necessary! And I personally prefer quality over price. I know you can get them either here (on this site) or on eBay or you can just do a google search and you could find a ton of oud case sellers, but can someone please guide me as to what a good quality case should be like?

Doing my best, so that I can't blame myself for anything.

An oud case is indeed important. If you want to preserve for as long as possible, of course... So, I'd say quality is most important as well!

Sure you can get an oud case for little money, but it probably won't be made out of a high quality material. I've seen cases made out of nylon that look cute, but I doubt they're high quality.

What you need to look for when buying a case, be it soft or hard, look for protective layers, and especially look for layers that will protect your oud from moisture! Palziv is a good example, it's water repellent for instance. Not all cases have this extra protective layer.

I think protective layers are a must! Humidity is probably the oud's worst enemy, it can literally destroy the instrument altogether. So, the more protective the case, the better!

I  saw an oud hard case for sale recently, and the seller mentioned the case had metal legs to keep it up the floor, which would help with the moisture not being absorbed. What do you guys think of this? Is it true?

^ I have one of those, but I'm letting my oud "breathe" from time to time, I'm not keeping it inside the case if I don't play it for a few days. I paid good money for it and I really don't want anything to happen to my oud!
