While spun aluminum has its advantages (lighter, cheaper, and corrosion resistant), I prefer the "warmer" sound of copper. This preference is subjective, but I think most people would probably agree.

Yes, some years ago, when I first looked for an egypt-style drum, I tried it on a Meinl made of copper. It was really great to me! - The only minus was a huge gap beside the head. I feeled not comfortable with, because I like a fat contact at my wrists and the body.
