Tips on reheading a ceramic doumbek?
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:29:15 AM »
I have a friend (well, more of an acquaintance) who is absolutely sure that in order to rehead his ceramic doumbek, you'd have to glue the head.
I disagree, but he insists he read it in a book, so he's probably gonna go ahead and do that....
Is this really the way to rehead a doumbek? I thought you're supposed to use the rope system.

:) :P :D

It's actually the glue that holds the head in place, and not the ropes. The ropes do have an important role though: they hold the head tight and in place, as long as the glue is still wet and needs time to dry.

Did your friend play it so hard it broke? :D heheheh!

On a more serious note, I found this tutorial that should help, although it's not finished :(

In any case, the person who wrote it didn't mention glue anywhere, just so you know...

I'm with Gary on this one, you actually have to use glue! What type of doumbek does your friend have? Why does he need to rehead it?

Well, what did your friend do? Can you refer him to this forum?
What exactly is he looking to do?

If it helps, show him this video:

Itís better if you can actually tell the whole story while as most people here pointed out that we have to be using glue but you must use high quality ones which are especially there for instruments, as I visited a shop few days back where they had glue especially for Musical instruments.
