Which fingers to use for the doumbek split fingers?
« on: May 18, 2015, 02:41:54 AM »
Hey
I am playing the darbuka about 6 months.
I don't understand why not to use  the middle finger for the strokes? I saw that most professional players are using the the ring finger.
I fill that the middle finger is much more stronger and fast.
Any reason for that?

Also
If you look at some split fingers videos you will see that the professional doumbek players use the index and ring fingers but not all the the tree fingers (index, middle & ring)
Can you explain that?

Thanks
Ron ;)

For me, the middle finger becomes a natural 'pivot point'. So its easy/fast to swivel between the ring and index fingers.  I do use the middle finger when performing finger rolls and snaps though.
