Hi Barnik,
I'm just getting started myself with playing different kinds of hand drums. I did have a djembe at one point, until a friend sat on it while playing. I have recorded some people, however, and typically you want to use the same kinds of dynamic mics that work well with other kinds of drums. The Sennheiser MD-421 is a good choice, but, if you're on a budget you can't go wrong with an SM-57. Condenser mics may have their own resonances which can interact poorly with drums when close miced. The do work well as overheads for a drum group ensemble, however. I have an inexpensive MXR ribbon mic that I find also works well when I want a slightly darker sound.
