« on: April 14, 2015, 04:17:45 AM »
Everywhere I look, all I see is famous men oud players, too few women players out there. How come? Does anyone know of any women players that are famous?

You haven't really looked though, haven't you? :) There are plenty of great oud players who are female, for instance have you hear about Gulcin Yahya? Look for her on YouTube, you'll love her singing! Waeed Bouhassoun is also a good oud player, or Beihdja Rahal. There are many more, you just probably didn't hear about them.

No, Ayla is right, there are more male players than female, at least among the famous players, but women oud players have been known to have quite a number of fans!

If anyone is interested here's a duet she made not too long ago (ok, it's been 2 years, but it's still beautiful) Enjoy!!

Doumbeks rock!

Actually I donít think itís really anything surprising because when it comes to Oud, itís always men that are more interested, but as mention by Molly there are some of the greatest players been female, so in a way itís better to have quality players instead of too many.

Sorry, but I donít see any real stats by which one can say this, so how do you say there are few women players? Even if there are less international players then also you canít say this because overall there are many women players, so I ask you again to provide the reason for saying this.
