Why do you guys love the oud?
« on: March 11, 2015, 12:01:08 PM »
When I was younger, my parents paid for guitar lessons for me and I loved playing it! But since we never had the money to actually buy a good guitar, I stopped playing.
Then some time went by and - it was pretty much a few years ago when I discovered YouTube - I found some videos with some people playing the oud! I'm also into oriental music, so I thought... perfect! I was already grown up so I could afford to buy an oud :D

So, basically, this is why I'm into learning how to play this instrument and why I like it so much :)

What about you?
Is there a particular reason you guys like the oud?

Ouds are the real ancestors of modern guitars!

Honestly? Because it sounds amazing!
I've always been a fan of the guitar (both classic and electric, they both sound amazing to me) and then I discovered these babies! Of course I have no idea how to hold one without dropping it on the floor LOL but as soon as I'm able to, I'm thinking about learning how to play one. Just for fun, nothing more.
Music is what feeds the soul!

Honestly, who doesn't love the oud?
You'd have to not enjoy music at all in order to not like the oud LOL :D

I love Oud because of the wide expression on melody.
For me, though it is an acoustic stringed instrument, it can be aggressive instrument like guitar in Metal music.
And it has deep echo, rich tone caused by the bowl body.

^ That is true! I never would have guessed until I listened to it with my own ears! An oud can be soft and romantic, but it can also blow you away with a ridiculously aggressive sound! It's so awesome! I wish I learned to play it already! It's so difficult being a beginner..

Well, its sound is just too beautiful for one. My reason might be subjective but I grew up in an Oud-loving environment/culture. I held one for the first time, and just fell in love with it. I still don't play well. In fact the lessons I took never covered everything, especially not the theoretical lessons.

Itís obviously because I find the music interesting, so every sound is a pleasure to my ears. I have always been a lover of music and this is something I use to really dream as a kid and now been an adult, I have my choice to enjoy this.

For me, it has a lot to do with the timbre of the instrument.  The twanginess (for lack of a better term) of the notes really appeals to me, as well as the sound achieved by the paired strings.  I also like the distinct decay you get in contrast to other stringed instruments like guitar.  It provides for a different type of melodic development.  I also really like the look of the oud, to be honest.

I founded out that type of music a few years ago, immediately I "fell" in love with it.
I listen to oud music whenever I feel stressed and I'm in a bad mood.
This music always helps me to cope with stress and to relax a lot. :)

I have heard these three names before playing Oud Naseer Shamma,  Farid al-Atrash and  Riyad al-Sunbati. Then try to collect their music. You can hardly believe that how a man can play a musical instrument like this! I have got addicted with Oud at the same hour.

Basically it's the first thing that happened to me at the first time playing oud. Actually oud is a versatile music player. If you can play it, you make it playing with all type ]of songs.

That's the only reason I love it really ;D
