Oud Teachers & Lessons / How to play chords on the oud
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:27:06 AM »
I found this video, about how to play chords on the oud and I thought it was interesting enough to share!

If anyone has other similar videos to share, please do! :)

I noticed that, when I play my oud, I keep hearing this buzzing sound. It's not very loud, but it's becoming pretty annoying and I was wondering if, first of all, it's normal to hear is, and second, if there is a way to get rid of it?

Oud Lovers / Build you own oud resources?
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:19:31 AM »
Are there any good resources that teach you how to build an oud?
I don't know if I'm ever going to build one myself, but i am so very curious about how it's done! If anyone can recommend a good source to learn more about this, I would greatly appreciate it :)

Can someone please suggest what should I do?
I have a 60 cm. oud and I'm looking for the right strings for it, I thought about getting the Lenzner strings, because in theory they "fit" the tension used for CC cc arabic tuning, but I also found these Pyramid Lute strings, and don't know which to choose. Can someone please help me out with a suggestion? Thank you!

This is a question for all you oud experts: at what note should I from Ajam to Saba and then back to Ajam? I'm still learning, so I thought I'd just ask here! Maybe someone can help me out..

Buy & Sell Oud / Would you buy a Turkish oud or an Arabic one?
« on: April 03, 2015, 05:45:37 AM »
I'm looking for pros and cons (if there are any...!) regarding which oud should I choose to buy.
What do you think? Which do you personally prefer and why? Turkish oud or Arabic oud?

I really don't have a preference right now, but if I chose a Turkish oud, would I be able to tune it like an Arabic one? Or vice versa?

Oud Lovers / Should you tell a story through your taqsim ?
« on: April 03, 2015, 05:40:15 AM »
This is something I've been asking myself for a long time: should an oud player tell a story through his taqsim? What do you think? You do express emotions through it, that I know, but do those emotions tell a story as well?
