Ney, Kawala Lovers / Re: try to make kawala
« on: October 18, 2016, 07:44:57 AM »
Hello shir266,

I got a book by the Egyptian Flute producer Marwan hassan who lives in Germany near Berlin. He wrote a book about how to make a Kawala or Nay. But I think this book is only available in German language yet.

In Amazon Shop:   Kawala & Nay by Marwan Hassan

Kontakt Marwan Hassan from Impressum of Shakuhachi Shop: http://www.shakuhachi-shop.de/impressum/

You can ask him in English or Arabic language if whether he already planned to write an English version. I hope it helps

Furthermore a Youtube Video:

Hello everybody ,

I'd like to know of the tone distances of the Kawala from hole 2 hole. I know about the distances of every Nay:

From down 2 top in 1/4 tone  steps:
Code: [Select]

distances: 0    -    4/4    -     2/4    -    1/4    -    3/4    -     2/4    -    2/4     -    4/4
hole       0          1            2           3           4            5           6           b(ack) hole

What about the tone distances of the Kawala?

Hello everybody,
I am living in Berlin, Germany and playing the Alto Saxophone for several years.

During my study of computer sciences on the island Crete my love for oriental music  had been started and never stopped. As I have been together with friends  in Athens I was looking around to get a Nay but people stated I have to go to Instanbul for a Nay. Few weeks later I found a online shop driven by an Egyptian guy who is creating  their own Nays and Kavalas. His name is Marwan Hassan and he is living just 40 min away from my home.

http://www.shakuhachi-shop.de/produkt-kategorie/nay-neys-floeten    Unfortunately no English version with Marwans web page   :'(

Thus I got my first Nay Doka (Re - D) and got crazy playing this instrument.  I am just a beginner with Nay but I hope to learn more. I mostly like the  combination from oriental music together with Jazz improvisation such as in 'A Night in Tunisia'.

Now I am looking forward to play the blue Kavala  8)
