I don't know much about this stuff, but I always thought all nylon strings were pretty much equivalent. However, I've read somewhere (online) that some nylon strings can be more dense than others, is that true?

Hypothetically, is it possible to tune an Arabic oud to Turkish C# F# B E A D? I'm afraid it's not possible, but I thought I'd ask first, just to see what you people think!  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I was wondering, is it possible to just use guitar pegs on my oud? In theory, I would avoid so many problems, like the pegs slipping, for instance! What do you think, is it possible?

5
Has anyone ever thought about comparing the Dowland's fret spacing method with the mathematical spacing? Some say the mathematical spacing doesn't sound as good, what does everyone think?

6
I have a question, maybe someone can help me out here: when do luthiers usually apply the french polish? Is it before gluing the bridge & pickguard? Thank you in advance!

Where to begin? I really want to learn and I'm still looking to buy an oud (used), so meanwhile I'd like to find out what are your resources when it comes to learning how to play the oud?

Buy & Sell Oud / Reliable eBay oud sellers?
« on: April 01, 2015, 04:41:49 AM »
Does anyone know any reliable oud sellers, on eBay?
I think buying a used oud is much more affordable, at least in my case, so I'm looking... Thought eBay would be a good place to look!

Can someone please explain to me the differences between the different types of strings, in the tuning of the oud? Which ones are better?

When tuning an oud, is there a specific way to connect each string to each peg? There is a diagram, called the  Parfitt diagram, should I just use that one? Does it work for every oud?

Honestly, who doesn't love the oud?
You'd have to not enjoy music at all in order to not like the oud LOL :D

Ney, Kawala Lovers / Re: How difficult is it to play the ney?

I think I just saw a thread with a video tutorial on how to play the ney! Just look for it, you'll find it quickly :)

Well, yes and no.
The tambourine doesn't have a skin, it's just a "circle" equipped with cymbals. You shake it and you have music. A frame drum is, in fact, a drum! :)
