Title: How are frame drums really made?
Post by: Ayla on March 12, 2015, 04:30:28 AM
I was always curious about this! How are frame drums really made? Are they made by hand? Like, can someone actually build one? Or do frame drum lovers have to buy them from manufacturers only?

Well, frame drums are among the first drums ever invented, so I think they are still, to this day, handmade! Which is pretty amazing if you think about it :)

I think it depends on the drum. I mean, some are made out of wood, some metal, some have a single head, others have a double head. The frame is also made out of different materials, either animal skin or organs, or synthetic materials (but these are probably only made in the USA. The original frame drums are made with animal skin.. )

If you are looking for an ideal drum then it must be made out of wood, it gives it the originality but if you seek for looks then maybe metal might be your thing, so I always believe in having a quality one instead of attractive.
