Title: Soft position on the riq helps split finger technique
Post by: BearHug on April 08, 2015, 08:19:38 AM
This is just a simple observation, but I thought I'd share it, since it may help others!

This is a short video, explaining how to play the riq in the soft position:

This guy doesn't exactly explain the "how to", but nevertheless, it's an informative video.
The main idea is to keep the riq in a balanced position, when you hold it, so you can apply the correct pressure with your index fingers.

Well, if we were to explain the correct position, Brick has a point.
The soft position is, in fact, the position we have to hold the riq from which we can play it in a softer way (hence, the name). You'd have to form an "U" with your hands to hold it, with the riq places between the thumbs and index fingers of both hands.
Hope it helps!

What is very tricky about this position, is playing the TAK, at least I think it is. You would have to make is sound more "closed", take a look here, maybe this tutorial will give you a better ideas as to why: http://worldpercussion.net/riq-tutorial/

This is call real art, it can be understood only by a person who is passionate and determined, if we do with them itís like body without soul, so we can learn these minor technique only when we put our heart into it and thatís not easy.
